Photographing the Morgan Super 3: A Journey Across Wales

I love photographing people and cars. So when adventure photographer Karl Shakur called me about a project with British automotive brand Morgan and a one-off collaboration with clothing brand Orlebar Brown I had to be involved.

A Morgan Super 3, beautiful landscapes and winding Welsh roads? Count me in!

Let's talk about the two brands before going any further.

Morgan Motors was founded in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan. Morgan is based in Malvern Link, an area of Malvern, and employs approximately 220 people. They produce around 850 cars per year, all assembled by hand. I love the fact they’re hand built in 2022.

The Orlebar Brown clothing brand was founded in 2007 by photographer Adam Brown in London. Reinventing sporty, sleek leisurewear with its individual tailored approach, Orlebar Brown proves that men can still look fashionable in everyday outfits. The company is one of the most ingenious clothing brands, setting the highest standards in comfort, quality and functionality.

The Morgan Super 3 completely threw me off. Before researching, I asked myself so many questions:

Is it a classic? Is it technically a motorbike? But it has a steering wheel? Does it count as a car? But it only has three wheels?

While the Super 3 model is an all-new vehicle, it remains basic. It lacks doors, a roof, and a windshield beyond small bolt-on plexiglass deflectors. The new 1.5-liter three comes from Ford, bringing a peak output of 118 bhp and 110 pound-feet of torque. It only weighs around 1400kg, so you can imagine the fun it brings to the steering wheel. Bringing plenty of smiles for any driver enjoying a little enthusiastic driving.

I can’t speak about the drive of the Morgan Super 3 as Karl was well and truly glued to the driver’s seat, but I can confirm that he looked pretty pleased there.

We shot the Morgan Super 3 on a beautiful Welsh beach Black Rock Sands and then into Snowdonia National Park. One of my favourite things about automotive photography is days like this. It was an excellent opportunity to explore new areas, learn about two brands I needed to familiarize myself with, and, most importantly, create some beautiful images.

If you're looking for a commercial photographer, get in touch. I'd love to chat!
