A little background information

We have had guests that are beginners and some professionals during previous workshops, there are no restrictions, and we welcome all levels. We all learn from each other. That’s the joy of photography. Usually, we have guests from many different nations, a variation of ages and gender.

You’ll be provided with your very own camera body for the week and a selection of lenses. Jack and Kai will be sharing their shooting techniques out in the field, and of course, a reasonable amount of time will be committed to editing (maybe even with a whisky).

If you don’t know already, both Jack’s are British, and Kai is Swiss. The latter being fluent in German, French and English. So we can cover a few languages if that’s a query you had.

Review from David who took part in our first Scotland workshop back in February 2019.
One of the best experiences if you want to grow your skills. It changed the way I see photography in all aspects: composition, editing, working in the field and as a business. The workshop was four days full of great tips, amazing landscapes and lots of fun. The best way to learn something that you are passionate about. Jack knows what he is doing.

Review from Tanya who was part of our Scotland October 2019 workshop.
I felt extremely lucky to have been part of such a dynamic and talented group of individuals. It was clear that every day, trip, experience and shooting opportunity had a lot of thought and attention. Having a range of expertise between the instructors and Sony ambassador was extremely useful as there was always someone accessible with support and assistance, whether from a technical or artistic perspective. Scotland is already a magical place but seeing it through the eyes of such talent took the whole experience to a new level.

Review from Tyler who was on our October 2019 workshop.
Terrific experience. The instruction was helpful and functional; the instructors were professional, knowledgeable, and focused on the attendees; the shooting locations/hotels/cars were excellent; and the planning and logistics were really well done.

Our plan

The journey will begin in Edinburgh, and we will make our way up to Rattray Head Lighthouse, staying close to the action and enjoying sunrise there. We will then make our way West to Kilchurn Castle, Glencoe, Glen Etive, Glenfinnan Viaduct and finally to the Isle of Skye. On the Isle of Skye, we will hike around the Quiraing and the Old Man Of Storr. Also, exploring Neist Point Lighthouse and a few cabins along the way! Fortunately, with the colder weather, it means there won’t be any midges.

Some of our locations

  • Rattray Head Lighthouse.

  • Dunnottar Castle.

  • Glen Etive (road shots and deer).

  • Glencoe (cabins and road shots).

  • Glenfinnan Viaduct.

  • Kilchurn Castle.

  • Old Man of Storr.

  • Quiraing (inc the needle).

  • Neist Point.

  • Meeting Highland Cattle.

We are hoping to see some highland cows and maybe a few deer if we’re lucky! We’ll shoot at both dawn and dusk on this workshop, with the daily flexibility to ensure that we can adapt to the weather. Which, of course, in Scotland, can be both unpredictable and exciting.

Frequently asked questions

What level of photography is required?

The workshop is open to all levels of experience. The only thing I ask is that you bring some passion and energy, with the drive to be out in the field every day.

What should I bring?

I’d recommend that you layer up! Bring comfortable/ warm clothes and a couple of waterproof outer layers. A rain jacket, preferably Gore-tex and a wool underlayer will help.

Merino socks and hiking boots are your best friend. As the saying goes, “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.”

What’s the itinerary going to be like?

The itinerary will be exactly like the typical Jack Harding/ Kai Grossmann/ Jack Anstey photography trip, busy and filled with adventure! We will be on the road and often shooting from before sunrise until after sunset. In the evening, we can relax as a group for dinner and look over images. Alternatively, you can take some time out to refresh for the next day.

The route is packed with photography opportunities, and the forecast will motivate our choice of location. We will have a list of targets completed before finishing the tour. However, the specific order is not set in stone.

Where will we be staying?

Accommodation will be twin occupancy, and we will be staying at the following hotels: the Inveraray Inn, The Isles of Glencoe Hotel and the beautiful Skeabost House Hotel. If you would like single occupancy, please reach out for cost.

What kind of weather can I expect?

We expect cold winds and rain potential, which will undoubtedly add to the moody, lush and dramatic landscapes.

What and where will we eat?

All hotels include breakfast, which we will sometimes have the opportunity to enjoy. There will also be times where we bring a takeaway from the hotel. I will provide snacks if I can hear your tummy rumbling. As we are often on the road, we will try and make easy lunch stops. Finally, the evening meal will be at our hotel of choice. If you have any dietary requirements, please let us know in advance.

Drones are welcome, just let us know if it’s any larger than a DJI Mavic or Phantom!

Let the adventure begin! Please make contact with the form below. Jack will email you to arrange a call and discuss the adventure.
